Voice Lessons & Voice Workshops

Vocal Express is a workshop available to both individuals and groups. This workshop can benefit singers, actors, musicians, speakers,performers and potential performers.

The workshop includes breathing and physical warm up exercises, projection, pitch, resonance and range, and culminates in text and song interpretation. It is offered to just about anyone who wishes to explore their vocal potential.

The course is taught by Mary Barry, an award winning singer/songwriter who has performed all over the world. She has received training in theatre, puppetry, classical voice, jazz and popular singing. She is a professional voice teacher, recording and performance artist based in St. John’s.

Mary has studied with a variety of teachers and mentors and has a diverse work history as a teacher, puppeteer, actor, singer, broadcaster and voice-over artist.

Mary Barry has synthesized her training and performance experience into a method she calls Vocal Express; her personal motto is it’s never too late to resonate!

Mary Barry has a diverse educational and work history that comprises three decades of performing and teaching workshops in a variety of settings, including music, theatre and storytelling festivals, conferences, international symposia and as a visiting artist in the schools. From Mayne Island to Gros Morne via the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Barry has spent her career traveling as both an educator and performer, fortunate and grateful to be able to traverse both worlds. Whether it is mentoring high school students in performance and songwriting techniques, conducting music and puppetry workshops for all-ages or giving lectures, her experiences as an artist/educator have given her multiple opportunities to communicate her lifelong passion for music, theatre and storytelling all the while embracing linguistic and cultural differences.
